M. Bedford Smith, D.D.S.

Dr. Smith grew up in Brookhaven, Mississippi. He attained his undergraduate degree at Mississippi College and his dental degree from the University of Tennessee. After graduation he entered the United States Navy and completed a residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Madigan Army Medical Center. After several clinical positions, he was involved in the residency training program at Bethesda Naval Hospital and was head of the residency program at Naval Hospital Great Lakes. Dr. Smith retired from the Navy with the rank of Captain in 1994 and moved to Jacksonville to begin private practice.

Dr. Smith is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and a member of the Southeastern Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the North Carolina Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the American Dental Association. Dr. Smith has been Chief of Surgery and Chief of the Medical Staff at Onslow Memorial Hospital. He has hospital privileges at Carteret General Hospital in Morehead City. His practice includes removal of wisdom teeth, implants, treatment of facial fractures, management of dental infections, preparation of the mouth for dentures and oral pathology diagnosis and treatment.

In addition to his professional practice, Dr. Smith has been involved in many civic activities. He is an active member and past president of the Jacksonville Rotary Club, has served on the local symphony board, is president of a non-profit scholarship organization, and held many positions in church committees.

Dr. Smith and his wife Sarah enjoy traveling, cooking and boating.
